Argh! NAZXUL first gig in Europe! Hope they'll manage to organize the full-value tour... They've had an old idea to play live in Russia, that's why that will be really great for them to perform some concerts in countries that are close to us (Finland or Poland, for example) just to make this idea more realistic to work out...

Since SMConcerts arranged almost 50% of the bands for this year UTBS, it can be said from my side (SMConcerts) that the following bands are confirmed:

-ACHERON (USA)
-IMPALED NAZARENE (Fin)
-SATANIC WARMASTER (Fin)
-AZAGHAL (Fin)
-INQUISITION (USA)
-AVENGER (Cz)
-DARK STORM (Cz)
-HEYDNBLUT (Ger)
-MERRIMACK (Fra)
-FLUISTERWOUD (Hol)
-ANAEL (Ger)

So 10 bands are confirmed, the complete lineup will be 12 bands.

Gospel of the Horns and Negura Bunget are not yet confirmed, they might be added or will be replaced by other bands!!! We
have some interesting options left if necassary.

Tickets cost: EUR 25 (pre-sale) + addational fee's (about 2-3 euro) or EUR 30 (at the festival). This is for both days. One day tickets cost: EUR 20.

Ahlimbsmühle is 60 kms north of Berlin, by the B109 highway, it seems.

Does anyone of you think about going to Annaberg on Sunday right after the festival (Urgehal, Thunderbolt etc)? Think I'll try to get there,if the festival-hangover is bearable, so it'll be a fulfilled Black Metal-weekend.
Guess this would be especially an idea for those who have to travel such a long way. The trouble was at least worth it then (of course it's worth it anyway with such a Line-Up like on the BlackSun).

That's indeed true, but it's because of that!!! The last year we had too many band which played until 2 or 3 in the mourning, we got some problems because of that. The shows will now end around 12.00/01.00.
Personally I think less bands, but more quality!!!!!!

W.o.G.S.
05-07-04, 19:51
Well, I personally don't think that there is more quality, on the opposite. Last year's Saturday included Impiety, Destroyer666, Skyforger, Zemial and Taake on just one day if I am correctly, and I cannot see so much quality this year. Inquisition is definitely not a headlining act. But then tastes are probably different ...

They have a nice way of finishing me off at the end of a night of metal.

UTBS

Day 1
Heydnblut: boooooring

Fluisterwoud: worst set I saw of them ever, I don't think they are a "open air fest" band.

Azaghal: nothing special

Dark Storm: not bad but nothing special

Isvind: quite boring

Inquisition: no words can describe this!!!!! the most magickal gig I ever saw, there was something in the air, an undescribable feeling, his voice is pure evil and the new tracks sounded great!

Day 2

Anael: didn't see them

Merrimack: very thight agressive set of perfect length!

Negura Bunget: I was annoyed by the keys, the singing and the giant flute

Avenger: not bad

Satanic Warmaster: never saw them before, I had expected some proud finnish bastards but it turned out to be the guys we had been laughing at the previous day, STW's hair was very beautifull, in all colours of the NSDAP flag! although they looked ridiculous on stage, they played extremely thight and very good, SW music is really good live musically...

Impaled Nazarene: fuck them, rockstars!

a lot of bands dissapointed me..

NEGURA BUNGET was the highlight of the fest.. together with Impaled Nazarene and Isvind..

the rest was boring...

as for Fluisterwoud...

we did a ok gig musical wise, but we had fucking problems with the backline...... the drumkit was totally fucked up and the guitar amps just stopped during the songs, we had to break of some songs or wait a lot of times between the songs because of this crappy backline that needed to be fixxxed..

Best bands in my opinion:

NEGURA BUNGET - unique band, can't see them often enough, their songs and atmosphere are killer and managed a good gig even with the subsititution of the keyboarder with the keyboarder's sister. The new songs from the forthcoming album is very promising.

IMPALED NAZARENE - made the best what they could do and played a full load of "Ugra Karma" and "Suomi Finland Perkele"-songs. And after a couple of songs you realized that they had so much fun on stage. They probably would have played even longer if they weren't stopped by music from the tape.

INQUISITION was a good, nice gig, though I personally think that it was a bit empty on stage. Musicwise was quite good.

Azaghal - okay but not very spectacular.

Isvind - after all I had been told before I was surprised how good they actually were. Nothing too spectacular of course ...

Satanic Warmaster - the appearance of that "oh-so-aryan" band made it look really ridiculous. A huge gap between the way they like to be seen if one reads interviews and the way they performed on stage. Looked somehow like a schoolband ...

They were Tuomas and Lars, who are our friends since many years, totally reliable musicians. Also it was obvious that people didn't recognize Torech as the guitar player because of his military-ravaged hairstyle.

The next gig will be 22.10. in Kouvola, Finland with BAPTISM and UNCREATION'S DAWN. No stage show to be expected.

back from UTBS, after a 13 hours driving trip.

I must say it was an excellent weekend, lot of alcohol (and for some, all kinds of drugs...), big crowd, and we have been lucky enough to not have rain while the bands were playing.

Inquisition played an amazing show, totally hypnotic and ritualisitic. They definitely deserved to headline the friday night, no one could have done the job better.

Isvind was musically excellent, too bad for the image and the lack of charisma.

Satanic Warmaster was musically very good, but I must agree (as many) that the visual was not as expected...

Impaled N. played a very intense show, the most brutal and tight of the whole week-end. I disagree on the fact they-re rockstars... It's simply not a BM band.

I'm very satisfied with the Merrimack performance, and even though the german audience is known for being crappy, I never got such a good feedback.

The labels stands brought lots of killer releases....

The trip was worth it.

Pictures soon to come.

UTBS was a good fest although I expected more from some bands participating...

INQUISITION : Fuckin Killer gig of this KUlt band, absolutely fullfilled my expectations + they´re very cool people to hang out with ---> European tour in the beginnig of next year, check metalkommand.cjb.net for infos then

IMPALED NAZARENE : Never saw them before but it was an very good show...

MERRIMACK : Improved a lot through adding a bass (always saw them without bass in East Euro,...) Hails to them for being some of the coolest guys around (Special Thanx to Gerboss!!!)

most of te other bands sucked somehow, SW was a disappointment though I really like their albums....as for my own show with ANAEL : We hope not to have that many techn. probs on the tour with ABIGAIL in October
AVENGER and NEGURA BUNGET were pretty OK...

Inquisition really killed everything!
Satanic Warmaster didn't reach such an great atmosphere as on Strength & Honour or Black Katharsis...perhaps it is not really suitable for a live performance. Especially the vocals where not aggressive enough I would say...perhaps they should add more echo? Don't know...
About Mr. Werwolfs appearance, what's to say? Glasses may be very uncommon on stage, but who would be annoyed by his hairstyle? That is not of importance...

Well, our releases are quite easy to get I think.
I'm distributing the demo's reissue on CD, but it's not representative AT ALL of the Merrimack actual way to sound.
"Ashes Of Purification" and the split EP with Sargeist may be available here and there.

It was a very conscious choice not to pose and have a stage show at all, obviously the audience took it just the way it was supposed to, thank you for not surprising me, haha.

Why bother to play live then?

not everyone's expression will fit under the majority ideal of what black metal live should be,

as I was not there I'm not the best one to comment on SW's performance but knowing the music as I do I beleive it was probably done as I would expect, serious minded without much stage antics....

I do look forward to sharing the stage with SW at a later time...

Ah, finally the first comments about this. I already wondered if nobody recognized it.
I'm so glad, thanks for being the first one fulfilling my expectations.

Why should I settle for standards?

Do you really want to admit that it's more essential to concentrate what it looks like than what it really is?

Is it the new trend to tell anyone that you wished to get the reactions you got in the end if the reactions were negative?

Hagena

Definetely a trend that gets plenty of new followers each day...
Even tho I really don't understand why one would want the audience to react in a totally bored way, which is what their gig did for me...

Nattesirkh

I would not call this a trend, but an accurate response to a calculated reaction.
Manipulating mentally less gifted "black metallers", in a manner of speaking.

This kind of leisure-time activity is quite amusing, indeed.

It's ridiculous that some of you pay too much attention to the image, instead of what really matters.

I sure hope it will become a trend (=The general direction in which something tends to move). There will never be an end without movement. If it's standards and mediocrity that are the highest law, then there will never be an end, nor there will be a new beginning, just a quivering unevolving mass hovering in the void full of nothingness.

Oh, I just found this in my archives, and just had to paste it for mr. FuckOffAndDie.

From the 1st issue of Intrinsic Depravity 'zine:

> Satanic Warmaster will play at Under The Black Sun 2004 if I am right? What has convinced you to do this? Will more live appearances follow or is this a unique moment for SW? Can we expect anything special?

My hate and love for Black Metal made me do it. We will play other shows as well, like in May we are playing in Turku, Finland for the first time ever. You cannot expect anything
special. Only black hate.

Whats up with the pink dreadlocks in that SW dude's hair? Dressing normal without any fancy grim stuff is something I can relate to, but this must be some kind of act of independence or provocation towards the BM culture.
