excellent initiative even if it's strange to cover ildjarn , i'm curious to see how it will sound & if the band featuring will broadcast the particular atmosphere of his release.

Ildjarn is one of the great BM classics that Norway ever saw... It´s great this type of iniciative particulary if the bands envolved are of this quality. HAIL ILDJARN!

We (Grimfaug) already recorded our 2 tracks for this tribute and we didn't try to copy the Ildjarn sound but rather tried to give it our own sound, which turned out pretty well I guess.
We did Ild and Nattens Ledestjerne; mr. Vidar of Ildjarn already heard our versions and was enthousistic about it, he in fact said "better than the original" Hmm...

I already heard the contributions of XASTHUR, GRIMFAUG and EXCRUCIO and so far I am very much satisfied... I am looking forward to hearing HAAT's covers. Each band has tried to add their own sound, although I don't think Ildjarn-fanatics will be displeased.

why one band contributes 2 Tracks, no more bands there....

it will be boring to hear 2 covers from one band...

Haat's traxx finally arrived last week, after months of delay. The whole will be mastered next weekend.
I can honestly say I'm pretty satisfied by all contributing bands, but Grimfaug and Obscure - which is actually R.P. from Intrinsic Depravity 'zine - took things to another level.
Ildjarn fanatics won't be disappointed, I guarantee. I'll also try not to limit this release.

No vinyl release (for now). Interested labels can always contact me of course, although the chances are rather small I will coöperate with anyone besides Painiac or Northern Heritage - for this particular release, that is.

It´s quite intresting, how great the intrest in Ildjarn is, after all this years...

I think, people feel the real spirit and magic within his raw, not so say "ugly",
compositions. But last and even least, Ildjarn was one of the most individual BM groups from Norway ever.

alex

will it be also in tape format?

I think, people feel the real spirit and magic within his raw, not so say "ugly", compositions.

Not everybody though... Ildjarn's harshness still frightens some listeners (not only the average BM ones but even people who appreciates raw black metal ) and I can understand this feeling since Ildjarn compositions are uneblievably raw (and not the common rawness , something deeper that really stabs you in your guts).

I don't know if I feel the real "spirit and magic"of Ildjarn but it's one of my favourite bands anyway, its ugliness is so evocative.

As a side note, I am sure many of you would enjoy also some south-american hardcore bands from the 80s or so, I personally wouldn't count the possibility out that some of those bands actually defined the "metal" sound of Ildjarn to a high degree.

I can't wait to hear how the bands on this compilation manage to capture the pure impulsive and careless energy that is present on Ildjarn's wicked recordings.

Ildjarn doesn't have the same 'frightening' aura on the tracks with drumcomputer methinks...

With such unpredictable recoding equipment, I think this varies each album... each track even.

Which Ildjarn releases are most recommended? Still haven't gotten around to getting any, maybe I'll pick up some of their tape releases (since I'm poor)...

Get all of them & listen one by one without pauses between albums on the maximum volume level. If you'll stay alive after that, you'll get an indescribable experience, a kind of catharsis.

P.S. As for my personal taste, the most monumental ILDJARN opus is "Strength & Anger" (which is not less important to me than well-known & widely-appreciated Norwegian releases of the first half of 90'ies). Musick for pure Black Hate meditation...

strenght & anger is hard to find on CD

but the hate meditation tracks are so simple, yet so effective

So go & get all of the ILDJARN works on tapes; for example, here (http://capricornus.info/szatan) .

Is there a difference between raw & just really shitty production, processed through a bad mic or low quality recording equipment?
This comment is by no means meant to bash Ildjarn, although I'm not the biggest of fans I do like some of his songs.
I still think its funny that he emphasizes the usage of only the EADG strings which the attitude against commercialized metal I can agree with (which is how I seen it anyway).

well..
I got a solution for getting your necrosound..

just get 2 cans end a long rope (make sure this piece is long enough)....

pinch 1 whole in both the cans, get the piece of rope through it and put 1 can infront of your stero speakers.... walk outside your house with the other can and go sit in a dark forest or a cave and listen trhough the can to your music... necrosound assured!!!

06-01-05, 01:39

pfft.
I dislike bad sound, I prefer things properly mastered. Doing things deliberately any other way is idiotic.

alex
08-01-05, 21:50
isn't BM all about getting the best shittiest prod as possible. I know i'm speaking old-school but where are we heading then?
I still got my hopes for the future , you know

TZ9871
09-01-05, 16:10
Personally I can't understand this view on bad production. I can enjoy music alot more when it doesn't inflict damage upon my inner ear to listen to it. A black metal album sounds better when it doesn't sound like a leafblower.
Some CDs still have great value despite bad production,
but don't aim to sound like a fucking lawnmower. That is ridiculous.

alex
10-01-05, 02:58
well why not sound as sick, ugly, twisted as possible, isn't its all about creating that special atmosphere. Ildjarn did it, many others doing it. , would be nice if everyone would just stop fucking around , and these stupid fucken tours and all that useless promotions ,. who needs that crap. your talking about your ears while i'm talking about the meaning of BM

What use is the 'True meaning of Black Metal' if the CD sounds like a lawnmower?
Of course compromises have to be made in regards to available equipment etc. But really, don't aim to sound like shit, that is stupid.
Once you get to that level, you're focussing more on being a genre than expressing yourself, and this is redundant.
