View Full Version : New Darkthrone: "Sardonic Wrath"
Darkthrone Already At Work On New Album:
Norwegian black metallers Darkthrone have set "Sardonic Wrath" as the working title for their next album, tentatively due in early 2004 through Moonfog Productions. According to guitarist / vocalist Nocturno Culto, "two [new] morbid tunes have reached planet earth already. Material that will surprise...now easy, we shall not sell our asses, like so many others. Grim is thy word."
In other news, the group's latest album, "Hate Them", will finally be made available on vinyl later this month.
[BTW, I can't enter their official site (www.darkthrone.no), does anybody else have the same problem?]

I think the site is out of order right now...they might be remodeling it
Wow, another anemic, cranked out Darkthrone album with a pretentious, recombinant title? I can't wait!!!
yet, another Darkthrone album? So soon? Seems they are pulling a Marduk on us.....
i wonder, will this sound like "Plaguewielder 3"?
Great! Last Dark Throne album was terrific
eh, "Hate Them" was not bad, neither was "Plagewielder", it just seems that they lost something after '94
In my opinion they lost the bad sound :D I enjoy all their albums but I think that ABITNSky, Goatlord, Hate Them being some of the best as those with a more Hammer/Frost-influenced sound... But I still enjoy their more "modern" sounding albums, UAFM being my fav of those, very "grim" album...
I fucking like all their damn albums.
Yet I have troubles with the very last one. I don't find the sound so "grim". OK there are no low frequencies, but... Well...
My fave album of the "new" Darkthrone would be plaguewielder.
& my fave Darkthrone album would be A Blaze...

For my part I will always stick to Transylvanian...can't really explain why, it is the Dthe album that will always remain for me as the masterpiece
I guess that "Under A Funeral Moon" will remain my fave DARKTHRONE album for it represents the Black Metal in its purest form... At any rate, the three first "Black Metal" albums are fantastic, the best BM albums ever done, dark, grim, hateful and fucking raw, the way it shall be...
I am not into their releases since "Panzerfaust" which also contains great tracks, but a part of the primitive spirit was definetly lost, "Total death" was a good album but compaired to the almighty "Trilogy" (a blaze/ under / transilvanian) it was very weak, "Ravishing Grimness" has its purple passages and I don't like "Plaguewielder" for it's too much "clear", "Hate Them" sounds quite boring to me, but it's better than "Plague..." in my opinion...

As for me "A blaze..."& UAFM would remain my ultimate faves although I like all their releases even the last albums.
Really eager to hear the new album... though I don't think DT will ever succeed in re-creating the feeling they had on their past releases.
At least Darkthrone haven't sold out like some other bands in Norway. They 're doing what they like to do, it's just that they can't do it as good as in the past.

I'm in agreement here. Then again, most of black metal "lost something" (not virginity, unless anal for Dimmu Borgir) after 1994.

Yes, me too... for some reason it begins and ends there for me in regards to this band. Though "A Blaze" and UAFM are good too.

And now Dimmu Borgir are master of anal ah ah !!! :D
"Under a Funeral Moon" will remain for me as the best DarkThrone album ever, very hard to reach such climax of Darkness and Putrefaction.
I advice you "guys" to check out the cover I did of DarkThrone for "In League with Black Metal" album from Corpus Christii, the cover is from "Panzerfaust",and of course it´s "Triumphant Gleam",Celtic Frost worship.

UAFM and TH are the peaks for me. I've got a weak spot for Total Death, and detest Goatlord and ABITNS but frequently listen to Soulside Journey. Panzerfaust was cool at the time but worship of 1984 seems dead to me now.
Talking for me, "Under a funeral moon" and "Ablaze.." are the masterpieces..
From the start (even early demos) to Panzerfaust non included.
Ok the tracks from soulside journey are borinnnngggg live but on Lp it is a completely different story.
From the moonfog website:
"20/8/2003
DARKTHRONE JOIN SATYRICON ON STAGE IN OCTOBER!
To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Moonfog - a safe haven for supreme black metal since 1993 - Satyricon will headline Oslo Rockefeller on 2nd October. New signing, Disiplin (and another Moonfog band) will support whilst Darkthrone´s Nocturno Culto will join the headliners and perform Darkthrone classics last heard on a live stage in 1996! Fenriz will be DJing. A historical event not to be missed. Tickets are for sale now from the usual outlets "
Somehow, I don't have much of an appetite today. Actually I think I'll vomit really soon. I say fuck them all.
As someone commented:
"What a sad day for black metal. The circus has come to town, and tickets are near your credit card. Let's all celebrate Satyr's new project with SOAD. At least Fenriz and Nocturno Culto keep having interesting side projects outside of Darkthrone, which has become a big old franchise like McDonald's or Cannibal Corpse. Bloat."
System of a Down's Daron Malakian has signed Norwegian black metal trio Satyricon to his EatUrMusic imprint and has a finished album he hopes to release later this year. "They're one of the bands in the scene who are keeping the torch lit, and I respect what they do," Malakian said recently. "And the album I'm going to put out is really powerful. It's more accessible than the last Satyricon stuff. It's got a lot of just regular, traditional metal-type things going on." ...

Ironically malakas means asshole (not the human anatomy part, the person) in greek (technically it means a person gone stupid by too much masturbation). It fits him perfectly imo.

I couldn't agree more, however you can't masturbate yourself too much.

Well, it has been proved that you don't get blind or grow hair on your palms. And assholes are assholes whether they masturbate or not. So you 're right I guess :D

heheh it also has been proved that it helps to avoid prostate cancer, all you have to do is masturbate at least 5 times (not a day) a week (beside making love), and then all should be okay. Isn't it a good news ?

hehe, very good news. I should keep that in mind.
Come to think about it we'll all get cancer anyway (from TVs, computer screens, cell phones, microwaves, the sun etc.)
At least we'll have fun masturbating.

Sincerily I like the new Darkthrone album, ok it don´t take a chance with albums like Transilvanian Hunger or A Blaze in the Northern Sky, but I still enjoy it. What makes me mad is all the expeculation around this album, Darkthrone will never repeat themselves anymore. I think they prove it in each effort they make.
I think i'll just keep masturbating... \m/,
I also think Darkthrone never did get to sellout, but it seems to me that there was a different mood from Panzerfaust onwards.

I agree too... Even if "Hate them" has kicked my ass.
Best releases were A Blaze..., Under A Funeral Moon, and Transylvanian Hunger. I did think Plaguewielder sucked though, and I haven't got Hate Them, still debating...
But I completely agree that they're putting out shit too fast, and that after 94 most 'Black Metal' went to shit. Not to mention the countless bands the came after the fact. Too much shit now days.
Exactly why I don't play Black Metal.

Yes, you remember it well I assume, as you were 12 years old at that time...

Fuck you Carven, I was answering vekna exactly the same stuff !!!! Hehehe...
So Vekna,
Just a question, What was the last good 'Black Metal' and what was its release date ? Please illustrate your answer and let some proofs to make me stop thinking you have not used your brain in your last post.
I'm so tired of hearing this kind of pre-built sentence whitch are most of the time just an excuse to be absent of the nowadays scene.
pfft.
Nothing I say will validate my opinion to your liking. I listen to black metal, I don't enjoy ostentation and elitism through vinyl collections. I'm very aware that I was 12 at the time, and surely I cannot truly feel the effect of the music as such, correct?
I did enjoy your asinine taunt though but not all music has to be metal, or black metal to be hateful and anti-Judeo. Simply put, there are too many people interested in the façade of black metal and not enough interested in the conviction, this is why I stay out of the scene.

Then, what are you doing here ?
I enjoy black metal... just because I don't like you doesn't mean I can't like it.
Here, perhaps I'm being too vague.
I came here, because I seek to know when there are upcoming shows and releases from bands I enjoy. I didn't come here to start shit with anyone or get into arguements over inane bullshit. I don't see why yourself and Arkdaemon subjected yourselves into my opinion, it wasn't that rash to begin with.
Yes, I was 12 in '94, how this relevant? Unless you're 40 something, how do you enjoy Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, or Sarcofago? Absolutely moronic.

So bad your every sentence are out of the subject, I really wanted to know your opinions to have the pleasure to destroy them...
You (I quote again) "don't enjoy ostentation and elitism through vinyl collections" whitch is not the subject but by telling BM is dead in 94 (what was the month by the way ?) you are contributing to put even more credit to old-so-called-cult-sold-out releases, generating as a result to higher the price of these stuffs on Ebay.
I didn't say every music has to be Metal, I don't know what is pointed out here... So it's because of the others if you're not into Black Metal... And finally, yes, one can surely feel the effect of a time you've not known, how can you so clearly put an end to that time ?

yes absolutely moronic, you are right ...
I said I will give up but with you it is too enjoyable , each post is a nonsense ! I can't give up, I am addicted !
What prevents you from enjoying "Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, or Sarcofago" were you 5, 12 or 25 years old at that time ?
Fact is Darkthrone is growing up. Next album could be the same as ever. Grim. Grind. Offense.
It will be the same as previous one, minus a bit of energy. When you grow up, energy lows down some, and you have to face new problems. So Darkthrone faces this and though Nocturno Culto and Fenriz still carry the same level of pure blazing hate inside of them, they need to express it with different vibrations.
Let's trust Darkthrone, none is as faithful to Black Spirit as they are.
Wise words and a good way to put an end to Vekna's nonsense.

hm perhaps its just me,
but iv'e found many better albums after 94´ than before.
(black metal that is) if you counts it in total.
before 94' theres only a few classics (10-15 at the most) that remains as immortal recordings, in my humble oppinion.
how many great albums do we have after 94' ?
atleast 30-40 or so.
that iv'e heard.
that "black Metal is dead" quote is an out worn statement.
offen made by newcommers who think's they have a valid oppinion.

Dark Throne have released three legendary albums with their unholy trilogy "A Blaze..." / "Under A..." / "Transilvanian...".
"Panzerfaust" was either a great - and often underrated - album (maybe the one with the most terrific Culto's vocals). After that... maybe some albums are not too bad ("Ravishing Grimness for instance) but, well, as most of the current Norsk scene, it seems that Fenriz and Culto have lost their faith into black metal, as if they were piqued or boring themselves...
Anyway, nowadays underground offers sufficient interesting stuff to avoid falling in a childish or senile nostalgia with all that old declining legends.

they should have quit after ravishing grimness if you ask me...
i don't expect this new album to be any good....
but hail darkthrone. :iark:
Musically I like all of Darkthrone's releases except for "Ravishing Grimness" and "Soulside Journey"... Who cares about their new album? People, they won't record something better than their first three BM albums! It's not the same band any more!

I have to agree with this 666% !
Expecting that 2005 will be even better than the early 90's if things go in this direction until that time.

That is a hard album to top though. "Strength and Honour" is an album that proves that a new band can still make outstanding Black Metal. What I can't wait for is to get the split with Krieg. Should be getting it any day now.
none is and will be like the old ones.

Just got the promo rip from some shitty P2P filesharing program, although no new "UAFM", this rapes "Hate Them" after only two listens. Culto has not sounded this venomous yet. The production is much filthier too. Seems DarkThrone cant ever do wrong. The album keeps sinking in, and hasnt been off my player in the last 20 or so hours
the only difference i see with old releases is the lyrics and titles the atmosphere is still there grim as fuck
sardonic wrath truly stands above hate them
okay I'm a bitch! I couldn't resist from downloading the new DT work...so I did it...
well well well..when the first song started I wasn't sure that this are really darkthrone..the drums were to fast!!! I mean there wasn't any grind blast beat..but DT's recent works werent so fast...then when Nocturno's vocals came in any doubt flew away...seems like a great work but I must listen to it few times more...

I was about to mention this album being leaked...seems you found out about it. I obtained it as well, and Darkthrone is back with a vengeance. Can't wait until it comes out.
"Information wants to be syndicated". What the hell?! That title makes me think of later Carcass. NOT a good thing! "Yeah, corporate rock really does suck..."
even i appreciate all dark throne releases i think that they have lost something after "panferfaust" and i think they won't return to what they 've done in the past.there is no hope! But bands like armagedda go on where dark throne stopped.
AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGH !!!!!!!
I WANNA LISTEN TO IT !!!!!!
Is there a release date yet ?
EDIT : The Moonfog website says September.
FIVE MONTHS !!! SHIT !!!
for this kind of infos you should check the Moonfog website.
I´ve just heard the album and in spite of being beter than the last ones I´m not really impressed with it. It has some good musics as the first one but it as also some who are kind of pointless like the second.
Maybe 2 or 3 tracks are good but the rest is boring, riffs guitars lost their depressive feelings........so nothing fantastic at all, and really not better than the Hate Them album....
well yes...I was very impressed by the 1st song..but then when song nr.2 started I just thought of how many times I heard "this" same song from DT.

Heh, there's still a herd of bastards that always go for Darkthrone...One of the reasons is that we always know what to expect, and we get it, nothing more. Of course DT won't record another album which makes such impression like ABITNS & UAFM, but I don't care. I enjoy all their works (ok, "Total Death" and "Ravishing..." are weakest points). They are "AC/DC of Black Metal" and I hope it will never change.
