Where Grívf previously dealt with a crossover between Funeral Doom and Dark ambient, the musical sphere has now taken a turn towards more sinister, folk-inspired ambiences. I prefer to refer to the genre of this new chapter of Grívf as "Funeral Folk".

Total playing time is approximately 57 minutes. The album is released by Serpent of Salvation, risen from the ashes of Blasting Black Semtex Attack

Two excerpts have also been uploaded for your listening pleasure.

Between Midgaard and Helheim lies a no-man`s land, a derelict wilderness where the icy grip of Hel drains the populace of life and the land of vitality.

At present, I prefer to describe the music of Grívf as "Funeral Folk" - incorporating elements and moods of generic funeral doom metal, as well as heavy musical influences of "traditional" norse folk music.

The result creates a somewhat bleak atmosphere and gloomy lyrical universe, in which physical and psychial sensations of death plays a major role.
Interpretation of these sensations is an individual matter. Beware of metaphors.

The object has from day one been clear - to create bleak, gloomy funeral doom metal and to tease (and eventually change) the emotions of others.

While Isar was writing and recording material for his (now deceased) ambient project late 2003, much of the early Grívf material was written.
However, the music first came to production and final refinement in the beginning of 2005.
In April, after three months of intense activity, the first demo was completed. This piece of art caught the attention of NOTHingness REcords (www.nothre.be), who decided to make a Grívf release.

At present, an altered re-recording of Demo 2005 entitled "Sortenlund" is on its way.

Hail Hel!

Inspiration:
Religious activity and mythology of the pre-christian eras of Denmark/Skandinavia, mainly the bronze, iron and viking age.
Nature, animism, death (in several aspects), mysticism (e.g. seid, galdr), "dark" deities (e.g. Hel, the Oskoreia), rain, ecstasy, depth, darkness and hopelessness.

Hel is my muse.

Instruments:
Acoustic and electric guitars, synth, ritual drums, piano, vocals, effects, dark lyrics.

Members:
Isar of Forbandet

Birth:
Even though the first publications was made in 2005, the first Grívf-related material was written and recorded under primitive circumstances 2003-2004. Therefore, the exact year of beginning is a matter of interpretation.

Discography:
Demo 2005; Ymir Productions
