Sounding very nice, but of course the next Watain LP will be a "buy before thinking" kind of thing.
Sounds great indeed. I am very looking forward to the new album.

Sounds a bit like a forge between the sound of "Casus Luciferi" and that of "Rabid Death's Curse". It will nevertheless be interesting to see the artwork and lyrics though.
Got to hear 3 rough tracks in Sthlm, VERY promising stuff! A few surprises with the "traditional" metal nods, but it actually works quite well.
Promising sample. The 'old-school' riff in the song is quite good, and it sounds raw and thrashy as hell, with total dominating vocals as usual.
The Watain vein.

great teaser.
This new material as the 'new' preprodtape is great.
But I think MP3s are nothing compare to a performance.
...looking forward to see that @ PartySan.
good but it's hard to jugde from such a short sample
The sample doesn't really impress me much, but I really like the riff at 0:57...

Well I have read they will be experimenting with a second guitarist for Party San; maybe this will extend to the LP recording and make things very interesting.
Indeed you can't judge from this sample, although it is more than promising. This sample had a Malign feeling imo.
P.S. I may be the only one to believe that, but the thrashy riff reminded me of Ad Hominem's "Auchtung" (form Climax of Hatred album).

Great sample. Very promising.
Hopefully Watain will do better than Casus this time, which in my opinion is good, but not great.
The sample is good. Looking forward to the album.
I found the sample pretty boring honestly, though that doesn't mean I'll write the whole album off. Better to have the whole package (artwork, lyrics, full songs) to make a good judgement.
Finally heard the whole song at PartySan. Really a great song.

Yep.
They had a really short set in fact, 5 tracks if I remember well.
A very good show anyway.
Yes it was the only new track. They had just 45 minutes to play. Fucking tentstage was too small in my opinion. Too much people.
hm, i thought that watain had at least some kind of headliner-position. i know the tentstage from 2004 and it really sucked.
just listened to the new sample, the direction watain goes is god in my opinion, looking forward to listne to the complete track and album, as well as the new stuff of antaeus and katharsis.

But you don't remember well...
The setlist was:
Devil's Blood
Black Salvation
Storm Of The Antichrist
I Am The Earth
The Golden Horns Of Darash
On Horns Impaled
But yeah, the set was short. And only one song from RDC unfortunately...
Excellent setlist, anyway.
In athens about 5 months ago they played this new song...and to be honest I was not that impressed.anyway the show was fucking great and the Malign cover was DEVASTATING...BTW is the Malign guy just a session member?
Which Malign-song?
Off-topic: Any more news from the Malign camp?
Divine Facing is fucking killer!

Certainly "Fireborn". I saw them covering it some years ago.

He's the regular live bass-player. Some kind of permanent live session member.
Yes it was the "Fireborn", propably their best track...Though I consider "Sinfull fleshpear" equally great..

Indeed any news from them? Why did they stoped..lost their interest or sth?
I've been told that there will be a new Malign album yes, but according to "that guy" it will take the time that it needs, so there will be no guessing or announcing the possible time of release.
indeed, Malign isn't much of a "scheduled" kind of thing, which is kind of unfortunate. :-\

Damn , that's fucking killer !
i liked it though it smells dissection all over the place... ;)
Watain's new album is really excellent, their best one in my opinion....
Awesome track!! Been playing it non-stop all day.
This will crush most other releases this year (and beyond).
The cover and tracklist have been released as well:

Argh... I don't find anything "killer" or "awesome" here... and I think the sound is really average... Anyway it's just one opinion about one single track, he... Looking forward to hearing the whole album when it gets released.
Oh, and according to Ultimatum's link, there is a track called "Dead But Dreaming"... => is it a Deicide cover ?
This new track (Sworn to the Dark) is indeed 'killer' and 'awesome', takes their slight Dissection influence to another level. Here's a band that gets massive hailing for a fucking reason.
I've become sceptic now... I find the production a bit anonymous now... Hopefully the song will grow a bit on me.
Can anyone confirm that this is (is not) the final mix?
nice track, but not what i've expected..

NO, it is NOT.
I don't think it sounds more Dissection....
Watain is watain...nice track just have to listen to it several times to appreicate it fully I think

Looking foward to the album.....even though...I don't have that high expectations.

Agree whole-heartedly. This is Watain and this is a great song. I like the slow burn throughout. Definitely gets the point across. The song has balance and structure. I do not understand how the production sounds "anonymous"? Of course my ears are not trained for such nuances...Is this because it does not sound like it was recorded in a dungeon? Or in the forest? Or the sound does not have some evil-sounding, yet thoroughly annoying hiss or fuzz throughout?
Cannot wait to hear the rest of the album...Void, thanks for the link.
Now, when will the new DSO emerge?

i think people are confusing ideology with sound here.
the two bands are ofcourse bonded by blood you could say.
but watain sound nothing like dissection.
for the past 13 years or more, countless bands have tried to sound like dissection..and failed miserably.
watain. are not one of them.
solid track... sounds allright... but awaiting the new album and see how that sounds...
very good track, wainting for the album

Indeed they succeed. :D
Anyway I am not claiming that Watain are copying Dissection's sound ,though they re strongly influenced imo. I am just telling my opinion about that particular track (however , being a bit anxious about the new release).
Btw have you heard their demo?

Have heard the full album for the first time, the new track made me a bit anxious as well, I must say, considered it a little "unspectacular". As for the entire album it's slower, a bit more tame, a bit subtle in the way the darkness unfolds compared to its predecessors and the production has a more polished feel yet it is 100% WATAIN! In my opinion outstanding tracks are "Storm Of The Antichrist", "Underneath The Cenotaph" and the closing "Stellarvore" which is one of their best tracks EVER. I would categorize this album as a "grower".

Bought the album yesterday, I was actually very surprised to find it at the local music store, and it's a very good album. "Storm of the Antichrist" must be my favorite track.

it just got 9/10 ALBUM OF THE MONTH in terrorizer mag.
I have copies of the WATAIN digipack in stock.
THOSE OPPOSED RECORDS (http://www.those-opposed-recs.fr.nf)
...9.5 of 10 in ROCK HARD Germany...
Well judged, if you ask me! Intense and extremely well-crafted album...!
Different to CL of course, but another glorious pitchblack fix of pure devotion!
(...and please just do not start wining here about Watain doing sell-out now...)

i agree with most of the points, but in my humble opinion this is just 60% WATAIN and the rest is an extensive Nödtveidt tribute. Every song has some typical cold Watain riffs in the old way but then there's always some lame "Reinkaos" parts which ruin all the atmosphere.
Casus Luciferi tore my heart apart - Sworn to the Dark is just easy listening...

It's a matter of tastes anyway, but I find this album awesome, even its 'over melodicity'.
Some tracks are absolutely FAN TAS TIC (et Littré nous rappelle: grec --> phantastikos "only understandable through ImaginatioN,"+ from phantazein "make visible"... but I rant disorderly...)
...These trax are at least as Evil as (if not better) than "I am The Earth" or "Black SalvatioN", namely the UberCatchy [nearly Destroyer666-ish] "LegionsOf theBlackLight", or "Storm Of theAntichrist" [which they tried Xtimes on stage over the last 9 months for maximum impact on this tour], and "Sworn...".
More guitar wk than in the past ok, maybe, does it really make it 'DissectioN-like'?
...and anyway, who's got anything against DissectioN...?
And all these little petty trials WataiN has recently been submitted to -on the net only- , that's not even sure they are about WataiN's music, ethos, etc... They're just about the egos and envy of those who bring them along most of the time.
EVERYBODY AT SWR!

In my opinion the album is a grower. With every listen it gets better for me. Favourite tracks so far are "Legions of the Black Light", "Storm of the Antichrist" and "Stellavore". But still "Casus Luciferi" is my favourite album of Watain.

It's not bad.....but not that great either. I don't have anything against Dissection (with the exception of Reinkaos). Watain totally sound like Dissection now, like I said before....not bad but not that great either.
I hope the new tracks are better live, they pale to me after 3 or 4 listens.
I believe this is a very overrated album...because it's a great and respectfull band(and will always be). Hope they do better the next time.

Agree with that.
The weakest act of Watain, "nice" release but really nothing overwhelming here.
Better wake up & give a chance to some quality release with less notoriety but with great potential (Sadomator LP, Ride for Revenge LP, & co).
was among the scepticals at first, after a few listening this new album went beyond my expectations.
the closing track being my fave of the whole.
Too bad it cannot be performed live under such a shape.
Agree.
The mp3 didn't give me much enthousiasm, but the whole album in LP is a killer. We can feel the Dissection influence more than the Mayhem influence (as on Casus), the sound is more clear, but that doesn't sound commercial or "sell out".
Killer stuff.
