I received my copy the other day. Extremely harsh sound, makes Destruction Ritual sound like The Black House. Agonizing vocals, tormenting noise, not for weak gays.

American Psycho is a masterpiece, I have read it no less than five times. Samples used from the film are almost word-for-word from the text, which I'm sure was no accident. Ellis's Glamorama is another worthy offering, depicting a terrorist group of models. The concept sounds funny and the first half of the book is mostly for laughs, but halfway through the tone changes and it gets very dark and violent.

Looking forward to the vinyl release.

Glamorama is fucking brillant, but you should not try to sum it like that, this book has far more to tell than just something about some terrorist models...

To me the ultimate Krieg's release. Pure Black Noise, the one you should buy/trade.

Definitely. It has way more to offer than that. I owe it another read in the near future. As far as I've heard there's nothing new from Ellis due out anytime soon, which is a shame. I'm sure it will be worth the wait when it finally does emerge.

Wrong, there are some interesting news about Bret Easton Ellis : His next book will be called Lunar Park, and will be out next year (2005). October was the original release date, but there is a possibility of a spring release...

See more at http://notanexit.net/ (some spoilers too maybe...)

I heard many good comments about The rules of attraction (1987)... I'll try it, there's a movie too, directed by Roger Avary (Killing Zoe), but I really have no clue about its possible quality... Roger Avary is also planning (http://www.avary.com/rogeravary/cv/cv.html) to release a movie based upon Glamorama, it could sound crazy when you know the book, but why not...

Maybe that deserves a thread, if needed, I'll put these comments under the "Uninteresting/off topic" rule.

Adding my 2 cents in the "off topic" part of this thread, I've seen this movie (rules of attraction) not so long time ago and it was pretty unusual. The same story shown different times under different points of view. But in the end I didn't find it really interesting. Just another way to show a love story.
I don't know if the book is better.

the movie's not as bleak as the book (rules of..), though not as off base as the movie version of Less than Zero

the idea of a movie for glamorama is odd, I dont think it will turn out very well at all...

This book is good. But the MCD is shit. Simply uninteresting.

The coming of Lunar Park is great news indeed, thanks for the information.

I'm just amazed anyone would want to try to film a movie with a terrorist theme. I just told someone not too long ago that Glamorama would probably never be adapted to film.

I've liked all Ellis's books. Rules and Less Than Zero are kind of similar. The movie of Rules has its inspired moments, but also some stomach-churning gayness. I guess that's just easier to take on the printed page. Agreed about the film of Less Than Zero ... Very disappointing, loose adaptation.

About the only one we haven't mentioned is his collection The Informers. A lot of bleak and nihilistic stories in that. It uses the interesting technique of having characters recur in the periphery of other stories, though without any real unifying narrative.

I have never loaned American Psycho to someone who "got it." They were always bored and/or confused, though on at least three occasions they wound up keeping it. I've had to buy that book almost as many times as I've read it.

I imagine many would regard the "Patrick Bateman" mcd the same way. Their loss.
